What’s Included

An egress opening is structural work in your foundation, so it is planned and supported before anything is cut.

  1. Layout & Sizing

The opening is sized and placed for the window you choose and for your township’s egress requirements.

  2. Cutting the Foundation

Clean saw cuts through poured concrete walls, or careful removal of block in CMU walls.

  3. Header & Support

A lintel or header carries the wall above the opening, and block walls are rebuilt and filled at the sides.

  4. Window Well

Excavation outside, a window well sized for the opening, and a gravel base so water drains away.

  5. Drainage

The well is tied into drainage where needed so it doesn’t collect water against the window.

  6. Clean Finish

Edges are finished and the opening is ready for the window to be set.

How the Work Goes

Most egress openings are completed in a few days, depending on the wall and the weather.

  1. Site Visit

We look at the wall, the soil outside and what’s inside the basement at that spot.

  2. Permit

Your municipality may require a permit; we let you know what’s needed before work starts.

  3. Cut & Support

The opening is cut and the header or lintel set so the wall above stays supported.

  4. Well & Backfill

The window well is installed, drainage stone placed and the outside graded back.

(267) 371-7321
01

Do I need a permit for an egress window?

Most municipalities require a permit for cutting a new opening in a foundation wall. Requirements vary by township, so we confirm them for your address before work starts.

02

Can you cut an opening in a block (CMU) foundation?

Yes. Block walls are opened carefully, the cores beside the opening are filled and reinforced, and a lintel is set over the top.

03

Do you install the window?

Tell us what you need when you request your estimate and we’ll explain what’s included for your project.
